SONDER invites the audience to immerse into an associative and slowed down world, and gives a chance to succumb to a fascination for disasters.

SONDER is situated in a non-place, somewhere close to a aerodrome. It is unclear when everything will implode, if it is even going to happen, or if the catastrophe already occurred. In this suspended state of collapse, the two protagonists are looking for safety and happiness within self made and fragile refuges. Surrounded by a disturbing environment, these shelters seem to be islands of supposed blessedness. They create fleeting images and sceneries, plunging themselves into a space of echoes and illusions.

SONDER is alarming, instinctive, futuristic and poetic. It is the uncanny and forlorn atmosphere of a place which is normally busy, but lies now quiet and abandoned. It is the undefined feeling of paranoia. The amniotic stillness before a storm. It is the endless search for a refuge.

« Deers in the grass at night. In the room a lasting rain. She sits at the table, while the universe blooms through the wall. It's an emergency in slow motion. The void called one night.

«What do you remember?»

«A room. There is a room and I sit there alone, always alone.»

«Do you know the room?»

«No, it's in shadow.»

«What else?»

«Nothing.»

Fhunyue Gao and Annalena Fröhlich both work in the alternative as well as in the institutional art scene. They are artistic chameleons who explore excessively and intuitively on new sceneries, images and sounds, which are focused on making various conditions visible and hearable. For these creations every artistic medium is as important as every other to serve the performance.

Heterogeneous projects are born in which both feel responsible for the whole body of work.

In SONDER they collaborate with the stage designer Romy Springuth and the light designer Mirjam Berger. The piece is produced in an empty warehouse in an open and laboratory-like process, in which they experiment together, on images around the theme of disasters and the constant attempt to find moments of bliss and safety in them.
